May I take this
opportunity to share with you and our confreres some
information on some developments of our mission here in
Mozambique since late part of 2008 up to the 1st quarter of
this year 2009:
1. After more or
less two years of searching, on November 2008 the SVD Mission
in Mozambique was finally able to buy a house in a spacious
compound located at 1611, Rua da Resistencia, Maputo. this
will serve as our Central House where the Mission Superior
stays and where to accommodate visiting confreres as well as
those who come here for language learning. the rest of the
compound will also serve as a space for future formation
house.
3. Ten years
after its reopening in 1997, the SVD Mozambique Mission is now
composed of two (2) Districts namely the Northern and Southern
districts respectively. The Northern District is composed of
the Monapo and Liupo mission stations in the Diocese of Nacala,
with Fr. Paul Nadolny as District Superior. The Southern
District is in the Archdiocese of Maputo with Fr. Francisco
Javier Vidal as District Suprior.
3. on January
5-10 was our joint retreat with the SSpS sisters, facilitated
by Fr. Jorge Fernandez from NEMI. The retreat focused on
Mission in the light of the background, conversion and
missionary life of St. Paul. It was really a fruitful and
invigorating experience for all of us SVDs and SSpS in the
Mozambique Mission.
4. At the moment,
we have three new confreres who arrived in the last quarter of
2008 namely Frs. Chibairo Tapera Muserere, Michael Thanh Do
and, Anthony Nguyen. Fr. Muserere is in Monapo while Fr. Thanh
Do is in Liupo. Fr. Anthony Nguyen is currently on a portuguese
language course at the Brizilian Institute (Instituto
Brazileiro) in Maputo. He is due to finish his language
learning and will be assigned in one of our mission stations
hopefully by year end.
5. For this year
onward, we are expecting to have two more new confreres coming
to Mozambique.
This is all what
the Mozambique Mission can share for the moment. May we, the
SVD communications responsibles in Africa keep-in-touch
always.
In the Divine
Word,
Fr. Juan C.
Libangan Jr., SVD
Mozambique
